The Pierce Stocking Scenic drive is a must-do if you are visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes. We chose to get out of the car and explore a bit more than some may be able to do, but if you are able to hike some of the trails, it is absolutely worth it. The famous dune overlook is simply spectacular and photos do not project the sheer steepness of the incline.

Headed to Hennepin Week 2

Week 2 of 50 mile training went well. It was another base building week, which has been nice as I lost some fitness over the past month of recovery from the GRT 50k. This slow build up back to training has been perfect, and while I am still curious to see how the next 15 weeks will look like, this is another reason why I am happy with my coach's approach to training.

The Empire Bluff trail in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park happened to be my favorite. It was a neat trail that ranged from a lush forest with some big climbs to a sandy dune overlook. I think the varied terrain was one of the most surprising and fun things to experience at Sleeping Bear as I was not expecting it.

It's hard to believe it has been a month since the GRT 50k. At times it feels like so long ago, yet other times it makes me sad that it is over. I am thankful I had a wonderful experience, as it gave me the confidence to head towards my next goal - the Hennepin Hundred.

Last week I spent several days camping up north in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park. It was so beautiful and pictures do not do it justice. Nevertheless, here are pictures from a short trail leading from our campground that opened up to a deserted Lake Michigan beach. So deserted, that there was even a decaying animal!

Happy June! Right before the GRT 50k I was treated to a surprise visit from my bird as well as a few other egrets. I haven't seen him since this day, but it was so neat that he was this close to the trail.
